Keely Powers: a graduate of Virginia Intermont College
Powers has been swinging her leg up over horses ever since she was sevenyears old, competing in equestrian sports ever since. Powers was a Silver Medal winner in the Georgia State Games and a well traveled “A” Circuit show rider.
The farm afforded Powers, the opportunity to train and show with Grand Prix and Olympic rider, Patty Stovel, nationally recognized Three Day Eventer, Lisa Anderson, Classical Dressage Master, Steve Martin, and many renowned clinicians; Charles DeKunffy, Ronnie Mutch, and Micheal Matz to name a few.
Even with all of her hard work and talent, Powers had no intentions of making horses her career until attending college. So as many horsy high school graduates do, Powers packed up her books and saddle and focused her thoughts on college in Bristol, Virginia. While in college Powers, continued her training with the winningest IHSA coach in the nation, Eddie Federwisch. VI is the only college in the nation to place in all three varsity teams in the top five at the 2003, 2004, and 2005, 2006, and 2007 in IHSA, IDA, and A NRC Nationals.
An enthusiastic student, graduating with a double major in Business Management and Business Marketing, Powers kept her options broad for future endeavors. Her plan was to pursue the world of business until she was offered to coach the Emory University’s Equestrian Team.
